Guidance for Black, Asian and Minority ethnic (BAME) colleagues at increased risk of severe illness from coronavirus (COVID-19)

You will have heard in the media that there is emerging evidence that people from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds are at higher risk of severe illness from coronavirus (COVID-19).  The Trust’s managers are aware that this may make you feel particularly vulnerable at the moment and we want to reassure you that all managers have been briefed and are ready to discuss with you any apprehension you may be feeling.

The COVID-19 risk assessment for people who are at an increased risk from severe illness from coronavirus has been updated and all managers have a copy of it.

We ask that you are particularly rigorous in following the recommended infection control practices and, where possible, social distancing measures.  Of course, this may include avoiding non-essential use of public transport, perhaps varying your travel times to avoid rush hour and/or working from home, where possible.  If you need some support regarding traveling safely and sustainably to and from work, Travelwest are offering individual advice sessions which you can book here: https://10to8.com/book/jcpnuiwcpwnvgwqlhk/  All you need to do is pick the best time for you in the options and then type your details into the quick form provided.

At the moment, we don’t know the reason for the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on black and Asian people but, while this is being investigated at a national level, we want to ensure that all our colleagues are trained and competent in applying infection control practices, including necessary PPE, and that these can be implemented and adhered to at all times.  This includes ensuring consistent availability of appropriate PPE.

Please ensure this message is shared with all of your colleagues – for example by sharing this page on team WhatsApp groups.
