Menopause – Not a Taboo

“The menopause. There we’ve said it.  It’s a huge part of every woman’s life and yet remains one of society’s last taboos.  An emotionally complex issue that can trigger a whole host of physical and mental side effects, it’s a big deal. So why aren’t we talking about it.”

This is the blurb from the back of “Confessions of a Menopausal Woman”, written by Andrea McLean and it’s just one of the resources that we have available for colleagues. You can take this book out of our wellbeing library (situated at the top of the stairs at Head Office) to read at home along with other books on:

  • Diet for the menopause (recipe ideas)
  • Busyness
  • Mindfulness
  • And many more…

If you’re looking for information about recognising symptoms, support at work, diet and exercise to help with managing symptoms, HRT or alternative therapies, then these books may offer some ideas and solutions.

There are also a number of other resources in our Well-being Toolkit which is located by the first floor photocopier in Head Office.   You can also find a wealth of information, links, resources and contacts by clicking on https://wearesmt.co.uk/physical-well-being/womens-health/ to help you with your financial, physical and emotional well-being.

Remember that you can use the Employee Assistance Programme for confidential advice and a second medical opinion if necessary.

If you come across other resources that your colleagues may find helpful and indeed if you’d like to share your menopause story to help others (male or female – we know men suffer too!), please contact the People Directorate.

Important:  if there is anything particularly concerning you about your health, you should speak to your GP as soon as you can.
